Do you understand DVD Duplication?
Written by Melvyn Board
Many people recognise the expression but don’t really know what it means according to a specialist firm focussing on DVD Duplication in London.
In a nutshell DVD duplication is all about copying data or (the rather more complicated) graphics from a DVD onto another disc in an identical fashion so that the first copy is the same as the last. The process is rather more specialist than what you would employ to duplicate a CD from a home computer and although similar, goes through a different production process.
When it comes down to it, DVD duplication is similar to that of CD duplication except that the data storage capacity of the DVD is so much larger than that offered by a single CD.
The duplicator for DVDs is very often vertical and contains a row of matching ‘burners’. It will also have its own control centre meaning that it can operate outwith the control of a personal home computer. The data gets uploaded via the computer’s own hard drive. On transferral to the DVD the data is then stored permanently and cannot be tampered with.
After it is produced the DVD itself can be printed on with ink-jet, thermal methods or using screen printing (the latter is great for large quantities of DVDs to be produced but falls down slightly in the printing of photographs and other images). Very often companies will also order artwork for a sleeve on the actual DVD box itself.
Many firms offering DVD duplication in London tend to concentrate on smaller quantities of less than 500 units. More than this and the process would not prove to be cost effective for the client. In fact quite the opposite. Replication is usually used for higher quantities. This is because the more of the product produced, the lower the per unit cost tends to be.
Duplication is excellent for jobs that are required in a hurry due to the fact that unlike replication processes, no glass master is necessary. In fact, providing the machines are set up and ready to go, a batch of less than 500 DVDs could be duplicated easily in an afternoon.
Regardless of whether duplication or replication processes have been used for the finalised DVD or CD, a number of sophisticated printing techniques can then be employed. These include screen printing and ink-jet (by far the most common methods). The artwork itself is customised and tends to work heavily with the company concept.
Distribution and storage services tend to be available too, on the whole as often clients find it necessary to store the products prior to a conference or other important networking event.
When it comes down to it, if you are in the market for replication or duplication of DVDs or even, if it comes to it, duplication of CDs or indeed CD replication in London then there is no better place to be in terms of quality and expertise.
