There's no such thing as a perfect marriage but even great marriages go through a period where their marriage feels arid. When this happens, it can shatter your faith in your marriage but don't let that get you down. Here are 2 things you can do to keep your marriage alive and kicking even when it seems hopeless.

Are You Stuck in a Rut?
A marriage can be boring when you and your spouse are stuck in a marriage rut. A marriage rut is when two partners have been together for a certain period of time and have gotten extremely comfortable together. Their lives become routine and life starts to get dull and boring. This happens to most relationships. It's possible it can be prevented. It doesn't mean your marriage is headed for disaster. This is where you need to be aware of what you guys do and don't do together that makes your relationship so lifeless. Try changing things up. You guys are stuck in rut of mundane day-to-day life.

It comes to the point that in order to improve your married life, you need to change your routine or day-to-day activities. Try breaking your routine for a few weeks. If physical intimacy is starting to feel a little robotic, try spicing up your routine. When was the last time you and your spouse made out in a car or some place random? Try doing something out of then norm when it comes to your sex life.

It doesn't have to be all about sex, remember to laugh and have fun together. For example, if every night when you both come home from work, you guys have a routine of dinner, then watching television, or doing your own activities, it's no surprise you're bored. If you guys do this every night, your relationship is going to lack the excitement you will crave for to feel satisfied with your life. Instead, change it up and go out for dinner to a restaurant you guys have always wanted to go to. Join a cooking class together, go to a meet up group, go to a comedy show, what ever you guys choose to do, make sure it's something out of the norm.

Don't Forget the Romance
When people feel like the romance has already fizzled or just disappeared. Remember what it was like when you guys started dating? You guys did not take each other for granted. You guys frequently reminded each other how important it was to have each other in your lives. It's very common for most people in marriages to end up feeling as if their taken for granted. Romance can change that.

Romance can be fun and exciting and it can show your spouse that your marriage is special. Having romance also separates your relationship from other relationships that you have in your life.

There are many couples that forget to cultivate the romance in their relationship (especially if they have careers, children and household chores that take up most of the time and energy.) Except for the occasional sex, life can start to feel like your living with a room-mate. Does this resonate with you? When life keeps you busy, the romance and passion can fade away if it's not cultivated on a daily basis.

You can also try to start dating each other again and this can revive the romance and excitement. The idea of romance is to remind the person you're with on how special and important they are in your life. It also helps cultivate love, passion, and intimacy in your relationship as well as open the doors for honest communication.

Spontaneity and romance can revive your marriage no matter how bad it is. When two people feel that their highest needs are being met by their spouse, nothing can break them apart. With spontaneity and romance, you both can feel alive and give you guys the driving force you guys need to cultivate your marriage.
