Most of us will agree that using dull pencils can be quite annoying because the letters do not come out clearly sometimes. In order to avoid this situation, use a pencil sharpener. There are several kinds you can buy from office supplies stores and book stores.

The traditional pencil sharpener is always good to have stored in a drawer at home and in the office.

There are other more sophisticated varieties that are easier to use and work much faster than traditional ones. Some people still sharpen their pencils using a knife or sandpaper, and while these methods work as well, they are more prone to accidents.

The most common types of pencil sharpeners used today are manually operated and electric-powered ones. They come in different brands, sizes, and designs – some can be mounted on a surface to boot. Tiny hand held sharpeners are especially fun for kids because there are literally hundreds of designs to choose from.

A manually operated pencil sharpener can be either hand held or worked through a crank. The former is a common part of any child’s school items list while the latter can be found in many school clasrooms. Still being used after so many years, these sharpeners do a pretty good job of sharpening pencils and are very inexpensive, too.

However, there is also little control with regard to how pointed we want our pencils to be – oftentimes, the tip gets broken off and we end up with a rough tip for writing. On the other hand, an electric pencil sharpener is fast and asures a perfectly pointed tip; however, if it gets broken, it’s useless.

That is why it is still a good idea to have an extra manual pencil sharpener handy during these occurrences. At any rate, this item is definitely a necessity at home and at work.
