Encounter the Wilderness at Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary

Counted amongst finest wildlife parks in the country, Kaziranga National Park is popular as a natural habitat of wild buffalos and one-horned rhinoceros. Sprawled over an area of around 430 sq km, the park consists of swamps and tall thickets of elephant grass. Dotted with evergreen forests, the park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The park lies on the coasts of the mighty river Brahmaputra in Assam. This national park boasts of its one-horned Rhinoceros population, which is two-third of the world population. Location on the edge of the Eastern Himalayas blesses the park with unmatched biodiversity. High species diversity and easy visibility make it a popular attraction.

Flora of the park includes swamped grassland, woodlands, semi-evergreen forests and moist mixed deciduous forests. These four categories include spear grass, duabanga grandiflora, sterculia urens, leea indica, elephant grass, talauma hodgsonii, mallotus philippensis and common reed.

Besides that, tourists can see grewia serrulata, garcinia tinctoria, aphanamixis polystachya, leea umbraculifera, cinnamomum bejolghota, dillenia indica, crateva unilocularis and many more.

Around 35 mammal species are visible in Kaziranga National Park. Apart from the great Indian one-horned rhinos, one can find hog deer, golden jackal, Bengal fox, flying squirrel, large Indian civet, apped golden langur, Indian muntjac, tiger, gray mongoose, sambar, wild boar, jungle cat etc. Wild Asiatic water buffalo and dolphins are other highlights of the park.

The park is not only home to a wide variety of the animals. It houses a large variety of migratory, water and game birds. Most common birds that are easily visible are grey-headed fish eagle, lesser white-fronted goose, baer's pochard duck, greater adjutant and many more.

Krait.

To add more enjoyment, elephant safari and jeep safari are available. Elephant safari starts early in the morning and continues for around one hour. This is the best way to explore the area covered by Elephant Grass. A ride on elephant's back amidst the wild area is a different experience that lasts with you forever.

Another way to explore Kaziranga National Park is the jeep safari. Accompanied by a guide, jeep safari is available for three to four hours in the mornings as well as in the evening. Jeep safari offers you a chance to explore the park in a fast way. Tourists visiting the park can get a close look to the raw and rare wildlife of this park.
