Posting regular (and original) content is a veritable marketing gold mine for your business.

You have a blog, right?

You at least have a monthly newsletter, right?

If you don't, you have it on your to-do list, right?

If you don't, it's okay. For now.

Just breathe. Then read on.

Why? Because you if you aren't posting regular content you are missing out!

Consistently posting content that is relevant and valuable to your audience does a number of wonderfully delightful things for your business:

  1. It provides valuable solutions to problems that your audience experiences.
  2. It positions you as a knowledgeable leader and expert.
  3. It creates an emotional connection between you and your community.
  4. It makes you – and your business – accessible.

What happens next once you have those things going for you? Oh yeah, baby, momentum is created and business starts heating up.

Let's face it, the marketing adage is true: People are more likely to do business with someone they know, like, and trust.

If they don't know you, they can't trust or like you.

When you provide free valuable content to your audience you give them a peek into you, what you have to offer, and how you do business.

When it comes to the basics of getting started, there are a few tips that will help ensure your content gets read, instead of taking the fast track to the trash.

1. The Headline

You need a title that has people immediately interested in what you have to say. A successful headline creates that first connection and makes them want to read more.

The entire purpose of a headline is to keep your readers reading.

A headline can be straightforward by highlighting a problem and promising a solution, or it can be provocative and motivate the reader to click because they've got to know what's inside.

Audiences vary, and it's a good idea to experiment with what works. Give it a try and see how they respond. Next time try a different headline style. Have fun with it.

2. The Content

Fewer words, better verbs. There is lazy writing, and there is powerful writing. In order to write powerfully, you need to think of unexpected ways to say things. Use interesting verbs.

If you're writing for the web, break your paragraphs up into small digestible sentences. Emphasize your primary points with bold and italicized text. And remember, bullet points are your friends.

People skim, and they get lost in the long paragraph, especially on the web, so make your content visually appealing to read.

3. The Call to Action

Always have a call to action.

That doesn't necessarily mean you should always be pitching something or making an offer. A call to action could be watch this video or read this article. But by having a call to action, you train your audience to engage with your content. That way when you do make an offer, they'll be used to and expect the engagement from you.

4. Post It!

The only wrong way to post regular content is to NOT do it at all. So just do it.

Get started today. Build momentum.

Once you've started producing great content that grabs people's attention, positions you as a leader, and betters your audience's lives because of it, there's just one step left.

You've got to remember to make yourself known.

Get visible so you can engage your audience.

Post your blogs and articles on your website. Post them around the social media sphere. The more people who know about what you're doing, the more people can benefit from what you offer.

And, above all else, remember this:

Taking the right actions consistently over time will produce the results you want.
