Situated on the bank of Perfume River, Hue is a blend of ancient and modern culture. The city is divided into parts - the old Imperial Citadel and the modern part of town just across the river. In the oldest part of town, there are plenty of historic structures that people look for when traveling to Asia - pagodas, imperial tombs and ancient temples. There is Hue Royal Museum of Fine Arts, where visitors can find a collection of ancient artifacts. Hue Festival, with artists in various places in the city is celebrated in even years. The National Conservatory of Music is located at the Royal Theatre, where performances are held every day.
With a population of 340,000 of the city is busy, but not so crowded and the imposition of a larger urban area. It is about 480 kilometers south of Hanoi, and 690 kilometers north of Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), the largest city in Vietnam. In terms of getting there, there is a bus station, train stations and several connecting flights to Ho Chi Minh City Hue and Hanoi. Visitors can change money at the Vietcombank, which also has an ATM. There is a variety of accommodation from luxury hotels to budget accommodations. Many hotels have wi-fi access.
There are a variety of restaurants in Hue where you can enjoy traditional food during your Vietnam travel. Of course, there are many traditional Vietnamese restaurants. Hue cuisine tends to focus mainly on vegetarian dishes. Japanese houses are also meat and bakery serving French pastries. As for nightlife, there are many bars and clubs located throughout Hue. For departures quieter, there are many tea houses.
Vietnamese food is very diverse from any other food in Southeast Asia. The taste of Vietnamese food is different from Chinese food. You will certainly love it and remember it during Southeast Asia tours. It is generally a mixture of Malay, Indian, French and influences and incorporates baguettes and pate from France, and the curry and chilli in India. Recently voted by health experts as the world’s healthiest food, Vietnamese cuisine mixes grilled meats, fresh vegetables, cold noodles, and all kinds of seafood spiced with tamarind and chile.
As you travel up and down the country, you will find marked differences in the two main meals and snacks consumed by the local population. One of the joys of travel in the country, and is a good idea to ask your guide to point out interesting things to eat.
