Epilepsy
Epilepsy is a disorder of individual parts of the brain, which are when triggered by electrical discharges result in epileptic seizures. Forms and type of the seizures can wary from one patient to another. According to the WHO (World Health Organization) , there are about 50 million people with epilepsy, of whom 70% are children. To this day there is no clear information on how many epileptics there are, especially children, and any statistical data can only be derived from privet publications: Europe 2 million children with epilepsy, in the former Republic of Soviet Union there are about 1.5 million. In about 75% of children with epilepsy seizures appear in the first 20 years of life. During the first two years of life - 17% , at preschool age - 13%, at early school age - 34% , teens - 13%, after 20 years of life - 16%, average age and older - 2-5%.
It was long thought that epilepsy is a disease sent by God. The most ancient source, which refers to Epilepsy, is a Babylonian tablet (2000 BC), which is on show at the British Museum. In V. BC Greeks called it the "sacred disease."
The first description of this disease was given in the ancient writings of Hippocrates, and was called "epilepsy". Despite that more than a millennium has passed since the first known appearance of "sacred disease" or epilepsy, medicine still hasn’t found the causes for epilepsy. This suggests that modern medicine is moving in the wrong direction. It is time to change the paradigm of knowledge about epilepsy and stop torturing our children with drugs like okskarbamazepinom, carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin, valproate, ethosuximide, lamotrigine and even brain surgery.
At this time, medical science is focused on finding new anti-epileptic drugs, called probes, as well as the improvement the molecular structure of already existing probes, in order to reduce side effects, expand their area of action and lower toxicity. In reality this treatment is not only ineffective but also can lead to new, sometimes more serious illnesses as a result of the treatment.
