Have you ever felt you were hitting your head against a wall trying to get some of the people in your life to understand what you’re doing and why? You feel like all the time, effort, energy and money you’re investing in pursuing your dream would mean so much more if they would “get” it, but it just feels like they don’t.

So what can you do to stay motivated and keep going?

I’m not going to pretend it’s easy or that there’s some simple technique that’s guaranteed to work all the time.

BUILD YOUR CONFIDENCE IN YOURSELF AND YOUR DREAM

This is definitely an ongoing process, and if self-doubts have been impacting you for a while, it’s important to accept and expect progress that’s two steps forward, one step back, especially at the beginning. Really start paying attention to your strengths and things you do very well, and yes, there are many even if you have trouble pinpointing them at first. Ask friends, family, coworkers, anyone who can help you see yourself in a more positive light.

LEARN TO FILTER

As long as you aren’t hurting yourself or anybody else, don’t let the doubts or negativity of others get you down. By all means, learn from them and pay attention to the valuable insights their message may have, but don’t let the way someone else you automatically become the way you see yourself. Everybody has his or her own limiting beliefs, doubts and questions, and you have some of your own. Internalizing and fully believing the thoughts and feelings of others can really weigh you down.

DO WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

Other people may doubt you, but please don’t take that to mean that you have to doubt yourself. Yes you may be afraid. You may be uncertain and have absolutely no idea what the results will be, but do what you need to do in integrity and faith. You don’t need a guarantee at the start, especially since guarantees in this area don’t even exist. Just do what you need to do.

KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN

Sometimes, you may go into a situation with an expectation of how your dream will look and how you will get there, but while it is very important and valuable to plan in advance, don’t limit yourself to what you can imagine now. There is a world of opportunities out there, and if your eyes are closed to possibilities outside of what you can see right now, you will miss out on some amazing things – and who you could truly be if you keep your eyes open and go with the flow.
