2. Brihadeeswarar Temple, Thanjavur
Brihadeeswarar Temple is one of the largest temples in India which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is located in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. The temple, built following the reign of the Chola dynasty in 11th century AD, stands tall as an affirmation to the majestic charm and grandeur of the Chola rulers.
The temple features in the coveted list of UNESCO World Heritage Site under the list of ‘Great Living Chola Temples’. Millions of devotees visit the temple every year. The temple is 216 ft. and looks like an imposing architecture.
3. Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, Srirangam

4. Jambukeswarar Temple, Thiruvanaikaval
Jambukeswarar Temple is another famous temple in Tamil Nadu established on the Srirangam Islands. The temple is special because it is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Dating back to the Chola era, the temple again represents a Dravidian style of architecture with 7 tiered gopurams adorned with delicate carvings.
There are 5 enclosures inside the temple with the innermost being the main sanctum housing the Shivling in the form of Appu Lingam. An underground stream flows underneath the Shivling. It is from here that the water keeps flowing continuously outwards.
5. Kanchi Kailasanathar Temple, Kanchipuram
Another one of the most popular pilgrim centres in South India The Kanchi Kailasanathar Temple, located in Kanchipuram district of Tamilnadu, is a beauty to behold and dates back to the late 7th century. Kanchi Kailasanathar Temple in Kanchipuram is believed to have been constructed under the reign of the Pallavas. This is the oldest temple in Tamil Nadu cut solely out of sandstone. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva with its main sanctum blessing a 16-sided Shivling formed of a black granite.
