Finding Help for Relationships
Written by Bree Maresca-Kramer M.A.
Every couple goes through tough times as well as peaks and valleys, that is normal. However, if your relationship is stuck in a negative place, it may be time to reach out for some assistance. Help for a relationship comes in many forms. It truly depends on the individual relationship as to what exact type of help is needed. The types of help available range from articles on relationships, self-help relationship books, couple re-treats and counseling--either in person, on the phone or over the internet. The type of help you may need is certainly available.
Deciding what type of help you need is where you and your partner come in. If you and your partner are having a difficult time communicating, starting with gathering information on how to communicate more effectively is a great first step. This can be accomplished with articles and self-help relationship books. Learning effective communication skills is vital for any relationship, especially the one with your partner.
If you and your partner are experiencing severe problems such as not being able to get along no matter what you try, then counseling may be needed. Finding and choosing the right counselor is a very personal choice. You and your partner will need to be comfortable with the counselor in order for the therapy to be effective. In addition, you want to make sure the counselor you are picking has the education and experience, which matches your therapeutic needs. Finally, is the matter of actually making the commitment to the process of healing. This is important since, in most cases, the therapeutic process does not happen in a few sessions. It is a process, which takes time to build rapport, trust, skills, and tools necessary to address and heal the problems within the relationship.
The help is available to you, the choice of which type of help you will need are up to you and your partner. It is far more important to face the issues and heal them, then to deny they exist and hope they go away on their own. Attaining the needed information, tools, and assistance you and your partner need, leads to a much higher success rate for your relationship.

Dr. Venus Nicolino: You Have To Make Yourself Available To Find Good Relationships
The idea of making yourself more desirable by making yourself less available doesn't make a lot of sense when you think about it. The end of Sleepless in Seattle shifts from "awww" to "aw, no" if one of the two main characters skips the trip to the Empire State Building. As these examples from fiction show, making yourself
