Many people believe that the military is a completely self-sufficient entity. But, the needs and demands of the modern armed forces have made it essential for the military to work hand and hand with civilian contractors and corporations. Because of the vastness and the money that is present in he military industry a lot of companies try to get into it. But, amongst all these civilian firms, there are only a few that have been able to have a sustained yet profitable relation with the US military industry.

Halliburton is one such company that was founded in 1919 and has had a long relation with the military. Halliburton is mainly involved in the sector of engineering, energy technology and construction. It has had a very major part in both the Afghanistan and the Iraq war as there were major reconstruction and other infrastructure related contracts given to it, along with the job of preservation of natural fuel sources. Halliburton as of now helps the military by developing fuel saving methods and new drilling technology.

General Dynamics made its name by producing technologically advanced weapons systems for both the United States and its allies. Right now General Dynamics is supervising a Information Technology, marines, and the combat system division. One of the most important products to come out of General Dynamics is the M1 Abram tank that is used world wide now. General Dynamics remains a major supplier of weapons to the military and employs near 29,000 people.

The Lockheed Martin Corporation maintains the largest, and possibly one of the most well-known, partnerships with the military. Lockheed Martin currently helps the military by developing, designing and producing a wide range of military technology. The Lockheed Marin Corporation made its name specifically in the development of flight technology and aircraft. The Lockheed Martin group has maintained its close ties with the military and now it also work in collaboration with private businesses and foreign nations.

A very popular aircraft manufacturing company called Boeing, is also in partnership with the US military and is only second in terms of the money paid annually. The Boeing Company provides the military with the most advanced products as it has a very big research and development department. The Boeing firm has not only provided the military with aircrafts and advanced technology, but it also creates products or the space industry.

These companies have had very long as well as very profitable relations with the US military. All of the above mentioned firms have broadened their domains to provide many services and have spent a lot of money on research and development which has ultimately led to the fruitful partnership with the military industry.
