An anal Fistula (Bhagandar/Fistula in ano) is abnormal connection between end of the bowel and skin around the anus. These are related with anorectal abscess formation and are common in both male and females. Anal abscess is usually treated though surgery. More than 50% of abscesses are formed in the fistula.

Treatment of Fistula

Fistula is treated through surgery by colon and rectal specialists. In most of the cases fistulas are treated with a fistulectomy, in which the skin and muscle over the tunnel are cut open and are converted into open groove. Then fistula tract is healed from inside out. For complex fistula cases VAAFT (Video Assisted Anal Fistula Treatment) technique is used. During this phase the inner side of the tract is fulgurated from the internal opening towards the external opening. Then cleaning of tract is done and external opening is closed.

I. FISTULECTOMY
This is a surgery in which the fistula tract is totally extracted. It is done under general anesthesia, the fistula tract is evacuated and groove is left behind to heal by itself with time. In this procedure there is risk of sphincter muscle resulting in fecal incontinence (ability to control bowel movements).
At Healing Hands Clinic, Laser technology is used instead to fistulectomy to reduce the risk of fecal incontinence.

II. KSHARSUTRA

In this method special thread coated with ayurvedic preparations is used. This thread is inserted into the fistula tract and then pus or abscessed is removed completely.

Other advanced techniques used at Healing Hands Clinic for complex fistula cases are FiLaC (Fistula-tract Laser Closure) and VAAFT (Video Assisted Anal Fistula Treatment). FiLac has an excellent healing rate as compared to all other techniques. Also there is no risk of post operative incontinence.
