When it comes to losing weight and getting in shape, many people think that it’s impossible for them to accomplish their goals because they don’t have a ton of extra cash on hand. In reality, though, there’s no reason why you can’t get fit on a budget. Read on for five tips that will make getting in shape easy and affordable. 1. Workout Outside Contrary to what many people would have you believe, a gym membership is not necessary for getting fit. It’s totally possible for you to get in a good workout without setting foot inside a sweaty, crowded fitness center. One of the easiest ways to get in shape is to simply get off your couch and get outside. Go for a walk, or head to your backyard or to a local park for some bodyweight exercises. Park benches, stairs, and monkey bars are great tools that you can use to get in an effective workout without spending a dime. 2. Ditch the Fast Food Eating out isn’t doing your waistline or your wallet any favors. If you’re looking to get fit on a budget, one of the easiest things you can do is to swap out your nightly fast food runs for fresh, whole foods that you can prepare yourself at home. Think you don’t have time to cook for yourself? Give meal planning a try. Dedicate one or two nights a week to preparing enough meals to last you for a few days at a time. That way, when you’re hungry, you just have to pop some food in the microwave -- it’ll be faster (and healthier) than ordering a pizza. 3. Search for Discounts Online If working out at home or outside isn’t an option for you and you need the accountability of a workout class, try looking for online discounts that will make your gym sessions much more affordable. There are tons of discount codes available that will allow you to try new classes for free or for significantly less. You can also look for student, military, or senior discounts at fitness clubs or gyms that will help you save some extra cash. 4. Drink Water Drinking water will help you save money and calories. No matter how good of a deal your favorite restaurant offers on a soda or cocktails, water is always the cheapest option. If you’re a chronic soda or juice drinker, you’ll probably find that switching to water (even if that’s the only thing you do) will help you shed some extra pounds without putting in very much effort. 5. Keep it Simple Finally, do your best not to fall victim to the social media “fitspo” market. There are lots of Instagram models and YouTube influencers out there who would have you believe that you need a million expensive supplements and pricey workout clothes in order to get fit. In reality, none of these things are necessary for getting in shape. All you need are some clothes you can move in, a sturdy pair of shoes, and some good old-fashioned discipline. Conclusion If you’ve been putting off getting in shape because you don’t think you can afford it, think again. As you can see, there are tons of options for getting fit on a budget. Give these a try today and you’ll be on your way to reaching all your fitness goals.
