Food - Why Does Our Body Need It?

There are two major reasons why your body needs food in order to continue to exist. The first reason is to replace the billions of cells that you lose each and every day. The second reason is to aid in maintaining your energy at appropriate levels. Both of these reasons are not optional, you need to have them in order to continue to live.

Let's first discuss the replacement of cells. Did you know that each day, billions of cells die in your body? Now don't be alarmed, it's normal for this to happen. Cells have a lifespan just like everything else in this world. They perform their job for that entire lifespan and then they die. The good news is that they are replaced by other cells that will take over their function(s) and keep you operating without missing a beat.

The question you may ask yourself is where do these new cells come from? They come from the food that you eat. It is amazing that the peanut butter and jelly sandwich that you just consumed will be broken down in the digestive process and billions of new cells will be created. Those billions of cells will replace the cells that just died. These cells get together and form the most basic building blocks in the creation of your muscle, bone, skin, hair, and nails. That's why if you don't eat, cells will not be replaced and if that continued you would die in a short period of time.

The second important reason to consume food is for energy. Food, along with oxygen and water, combine to create the three essential ingredients in creating energy for your body. Food is broken down into the essential nutrients that power those cells that you just created.

If you reduce your intake of food, then your energy levels will drop dramatically. On the other hand, when you consume healthy, living foods your energy levels will go through the roof because your cells are getting the fuel that they need.

Food is more then just taste and a social activity. Food consumption should be looked at with a high sense of responsibility. Each time you put something in your mouth you are deciding how your body will operate in the immediate future. Eat poorly and you will have low energy and cell functioning. Eat properly and you will have an abundance of energy and a body that will recreate itself at every meal. Make sure that you choose wisely.
