Ford Fiesta, best used car for 2010

According recent research carried out by Experian 285,962 used Ford Fiestas were sold in the UK last year. 278,169 used Vauxhall Corsas were sold, resulting in the Ford Fiesta being declared the nation’s favourite used car. This increase in used Fiesta sales coincides with the latest generation reaching the 3 year milestone; many used models of the latest generation would have entered the market. Used prices for the latest model would have also decreased and fallen into a lower range – making it more affordable for more people. The Mondeo has been a solid used car in terms of sales for the past few years; in 2010 164,904 used Mondeos were sold. But, it was overtaken by the Renault Clio into seventh with 166,559 units being sold. This year, I anticipate that used Focus sales will be up due to the new Ford Focus entering the market. Joe Myers the automotive general manager at Experian said, “Our analysis shows that affordable smaller vehicles continue to be the most appealing to motorists shopping in the used car market. The success of the supermini segment can be put down to increased consumer interest at the value end of the market and greater demand for more fuel efficient vehicles over recent years.” There were also other movers in the list, the Mazda MX-5 outsold the Audi TT to become 2010’s best-selling used sports car; while Toyota’s Prius was the best selling duel fuel model, capturing more than half (55%) of hybrid sales. It will be interesting to see how the used Hyrket landscape changes over the coming years as other manufacturers and models enter the used car market.
