It’s been a tough year for car manufacturers; interest from retail consumers has been fluctuating month on month. The year started off with a bang, January was a huge month for all manufacturers and dealers, February saw a slump and then March picked up again due to the plate change. April and may were quiet months, June picked up slightly and we are still awaiting the final figures for July. Car brands that have released new exciting models have benefitted from a quiet industry. At the beginning of the year there was a lot of hype around Audi’s A1, and then in February the market was buzzing about the new Ford Focus. By launching interesting models in this current market state it appears car makers can attract conquest business. Ford Trowbridge has a lot of its hopes pinned on the success of the new Ford Focus; it is a very important model for the brand. Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Trader (SMMT), looks very encouraging for Ford. According to the official data, Ford year on year sales for June were up from 23,716 in 2010 to 24,561 in 2011. Ford’s market share also grew in June, up from 12.1% to 13.4%. Nigel Sharp, Ford of Britain managing director, said: "Ford's position as UK market leader was consolidated further in June with sales and market share trending upwards against the background of a highly competitive market. A particularly good indicator for our business is the increase in retail car share, which again underlines both the benefit of our strong dealer network and our best-ever vehicle range."
