People say to me regularly that cheap holidays are false economy, this made me wonder, I go abroad 2 or 3 times a year and have a fantastic time so how can other people go and be so miserable? I find it amusing, people complain about the state hotels and apartments abroad, yet they go to “T in the park”, “Glastonbury” and the like, they sleep in tents, have poor toilet facilities and usually hit by heavy rain or the ground is very wet and have a fantastic time – no figure.nSo why is this?nWhen people go to “T in the park”, “Glastonbury” etc.; you know what to expect, however, when you go abroad you don’t know what to expect, but hope for something nice, and can be easily disappointed.nDid you know…There are cheap hotels that are fantastic and cheap hotels that are poor, but how do you know where the good hotels are?, if you have a poor experience you often have the impression, “You get what you pay for”, this is so wrong, you just need to do a little bit of digging and think about what you want from the holiday, let me explain.nIf I’m going on holiday with my wife and kids, I look for the following:-nGood standard of hotel (does not need to be high star), family evening shows at the hotel, walking distance to the beach, close to a town centre with plenty of restaurants, entertainment for my kids that does not cost allot (swing parks, kids clubs etc), this also depends on age group.nWhereas if I go on holiday with the lads, I look more for busy pubs in loud areas and don’t care too much about the hotel as I only sleep there and use it to dump my suitcase. The point here is to draw up a plan on a bit of paper of everything that makes your holiday good for you and whoever you bring along, something like:-nLocationnHotelnTown centrenBeachnEtc.nGood, now you have a plan it’s time to research the holiday before you go and book it, here’s what I do:-nOpen up you favourite search engine, for this example, I will use “cheap majorcan holiday”, so do a search for:-nmajorcan resort review forumnAs you can see, a mass of websites appear telling you all about the local resorts, all you need to do is read peoples reviews who have actually been there and find what resort suits you best, then look for reviews on hotels, this should surprise you as there are many 2 –3 star hotels that are spotless and offer fantastic maid services daily.nAlso if you can’t find information on a specific hotel, you can ask a question and it will be answered very quickly, it’s a big online community of holiday enthusiasts helping others. Now you know where to get answers, all you do is work your way down the list you created, re-searching every item you wrote down that’s make a great holiday for you, it’s like building your own custom holiday.nI hope this information helps you as much as it helped me.n
