Get with the program
Written by Earl V J Stevens
"get with the program"?
In one way or other, we all have heard that many times over the years - from a young age, through school and university, through the first few years in the workforce...
But if you consider winners like Steve Jobs, who continues to shape our world, it is those that "design the program" that dictate the program.
If you "get with the program" you are destined to be grease in the cogs of the post-industrial machine - little service bots answering to someone else's mindless sub-routine built around meeting the expectations of peer groups, spouses, children, parents, co-workers, employers - in endless repetition like a colony of over-intelligent ants.
... all hope of progress rests with the unreasonable man or woman - accept nothing, demand it all and changing all that they encounter - catalysts in their own chemical soup of personal interactions...
Or as I recall Steve saying it "because these who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, often do"!
But we do need programs, and sensible cohesive effort to create the social fabric for the "programmers" to colour, cut, change and superimpose. Anarchy creates one hell of a mess - seen time and time again where social order exits from the barrel of a gun, be it South America, MENA, or Asia,
A necessary compromise - your programs vs. theirs
One thing is for sure, an idle program or a looped sub-routine (ground-hog day) will go nowhere, produce nothing and accentuate the fat and decay slumping out of the daily program of "the middle-verse" (not universe) - where whole series of lives grind out meaningless conformity only to be dismissed by the next generation.
Those that do nothing, achieve within the "norms of society" and keep the retail economy alive continually turning over trinkets, baubles, treasures - for a moment - only to be replaced by the next cycle of personalized, customized, mass marketised, glass, plastic, circuit boards and "designer" intellectual property>
Passing greatness
With the passing of Steve Jobs a few weeks ago, we are reminded of the shortness of the program cycle - 45, 55, 65, 75 or 105 years - still shorter than a geological itch on the face of the earth...
If we stopped occasionally to consider the greatness which usually passes us by then we would gain a perspective on "which program" we should be getting with. Personally, I am not hugely enjoying the "post GFC" program but looking at middle and lower USA and the perpetual decay that is Europe, I am heartened, just a little by those whose company I keep, albeit remotely via my 1 - 6 degrees of separation.
The Anti-verse tames the Uni-verse...
Get with the program - this personal website and blog is designed "not to get with the program" - but to encourage many to think about "creating the program" which we all need more of in a societal sense. Dark matter represents about 85% of the mass of the universe - but do we have a clue what is this unseen fabric of our universe - which also defies science by speeding up, not slowing down...
"Get with the program" - needs to be thought of in the gestational sense - he/she was "with program" - and the birth went well....
Dark Matter - A dark mystery too perhaps?
