As I get feedback from my Meditation Students, I understand more how each individual 'works' and that a step-by-step procedure that is a bit cookie-cutter like but has room for flexibility seems to be the most effective to get rid or at least reduce the 3 A's. These are Anger, Attachment & Aversion. These are the 3 main Delusions that cause us mental & emotional suffering. Once we can become the 'Observer' of these emotions bubbling up from deep down and recognize them, we are on our way to Victory over ourselves. We have to step outside ourself and be the 'Watcher'. The most obvious of these Inner Enemies is Anger. We always know when we are angry. Then we can recognize it & say "Hey, I'm getting angry..." this is a great way to defuse anger. Prevention is also very important and most people don't understand this. Instead of 'beating a pillow' when we are angry, it is best to train our brains to new neuropathways of the opposite; the antidote! Meditating on Patience is an amazing practice and once we have conditioned ourselves to recognizing the anger, letting it float by like wind through the trees and practicing that conditioned patience response we are well on our way! The true way to lasting Happiness is by eliminating these delusions. It is a practice. Just like working out in the gym for better physical fitness. We have to practice Spiritual Fitness too. There is more to it than just that but if you have a good spiritual guide who can take you through this you will notice a marked transformation in your life. Attachment is more subtle and thus takes more skill to recognize and then reduce. We will discuss this next time. : )
