Getting the Most out of your Sunscreen for Skin Care
Written by Sean Sabbatini
Once you realize the importance of wearing sunscreen, the next step is to realize that not all sunscreen works the same. With some sunscreens on the market, you would be better off rubbing your body down in butter. Some are pure rip offs, and you can't always tell by the bottle. It's best to go with a name brand sunscreen such as Elta sunscreen or another reputable brand. In the end, the quality of your skin care cream determines your general skin health, as well as the youthful longevity of your skin.
The first step is to look up whether your sunscreen is waterproof. This would seem like a no-brainer, but you'd be surprised how many skin care cream products simply wash off in the water, even in the 21st century. Luckily, Elta sunscreen is waterproof and can be counted on. Swim for hours, and stay protected. It is a long lasting sunscreen you can put on the kids, and not have to worry about burning their sensitive skin.
Another important step for getting the most out of your sunscreen is to put it on immediately when you get to the beach. If you wait to apply it until you have already been in the sun for an hour, then you're too late. Skin becomes damaged early on, but doesn't show the effects of a burn until later. It is best to apply your sunscreen as soon as you step out of the car and into the sands of the beach. It is the only way to get 100 percent protection against the ravages of the sun.
It is also important to not miss a spot. Forgetting one part of your shoulder blade can create an even more embarrassing burn that sticks out more because the rest of the skin isn't be burned. These burns also tend to be more irritating, as you forget that they are there until you've rolled over them in the middle of night and feel that sting.
Also, remember that even the best skin care creams only last for so long. Though you can generally get several good hours out of reputable brands of sunscreen, it is best not to push it. Always apply an extra layer every few hours, just to be on the safe side.
Remember, using the right skin care cream doesn't just prevent sunburn. It also helps protect you against the harsh ultraviolet rays that cause cancer. Using Elta or another major brand of sunscreen regularly is not only healthy for your skin, but protects you against skin diseases and ailments like cancer. Great sunscreen makes for healthy beach bums.
