So many times we allow ourselves to give in. Not necessarily to others but to ourselves. We make a decision to do something we know may not be the best decision but we do it because we are tired, we are looking for an easy way out or we are looking for something better. It is so important to be aware of all decisions we make and not give in to self but give it to God.

When we are tired, we sometimes look for ways to escape. We may zone out and do nothing. We may go out with friends and try to unwind. We may look for someone to hang out with who can help us stop thinking about all the things we have to do and enjoy life a little more. We make think it is right in our own eyes, but God knows what is right.

When we are looking for an escape, we may not always turn to God. There are so many earthly things we turn to such as alcohol, televisions, Internet, etc. We get ourselves sidetracked from what we need to be doing because we just want to get away for a while. We may be on the verge of getting something very important done but instead we give in to temptation and do something to fill our own needs rather than others.

When we are looking for something better in life, we don’t really think about what we do have. We often go after something because it looks better and find out that it wasn’t that great after all. We are giving in to our own selfish desires of wanting more and don’t even recognize that what we had was really all we needed.

God can help us when we are tired. He will be there when we feel we need to escape. He is right beside us when we are attempting to find something better in life, when we are bored, when we are lonely. God is always there for us. It is so easy to give in to self and reach out for the things of the world. What is hard is to reach out to God. He is so close but sometimes we feel that we need to find things on our own.

When we give in to self, we lose so much. When we give in to self, we stop seeing what others need. When we give in to self, we aren’t looking up at God anymore, we are only looking within. Our own desires may seem okay to do at times, but the consequences could be disastrous. We need to be sure our heart is where God wants it to be so the decisions we make are His and not our own.

Proverbs 21:2 “People may be right in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their heart.”

When we step out to fulfill what we believe we need, we are taking a different course than what God has planned for us. We need to stay focused on Him and what He has planned for us so we can reach out to others and help them. When we take the focus off of us and on God, He can make great things happen and He can work through us to make a difference.
