Every club that you can join is going to offer its benefits. The first example that probably sprang to your mind were the benefits of a Sam’s Club membership. Not only do you get a discount on top of the already low prices, but your shopping hours are extended and you have the ability to earn rewards for shopping enough. An American Airlines Admirals Club membership allows flyers access to certain lounges across the country and complimentary Wi-Fi access at any airport. The Mickey Mouse Club proved to be a potent launching pad for the careers of Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. Okay, so that one’s a bit of a stretch, but the point is club memberships have their benefits. The Good Sam Club, a club for RV travelers, is no exception.
The club, which was founded in 1966, has long been a staple of the RV community. Art Rouse traveled the country, and would hand out stickers of man with a big smile with a halo over his head to fellow RV travelers. It started out as a little society of RVers who were looking out for each other (Good Sam comes from the biblical term Good Samaritan), and is now a large continental club affiliated with 1,700 RV parks. Those same stickers can now be found attached to the backs of thousands of RVS. But just because the club has grown in size over the decades doesn’t mean it forgot what its main purpose was: To be a Good Samaritan to all RV travelers.
All members of the Good Sam Club are entitled to 10% discount at any of the parks and campgrounds affiliated with the club (which again is 1,700). But these parks aren’t the worst of the worst either. Because of the high standards of the club, this discount saves you money at the best parks the continent has to offer. This 10% discount also can be applied at hundreds of parts and services center across North America. All members are entitled to a free subscription of Highways Magazine. The magazine not only provides a bevy of useful traveling tips, but also offers a lot of amusing anecdotes from fellow RV travelers about their own adventures. Using the Good Sam website, members can use the Good Sam Trip planning tool to find the most convenient routes, calculate the mileage and distance and locate the Good Sam Club affiliated parks. Plus, members are eligible to receive RV products to test, and often keep for free.
These are some of the perks that the Good Sam Club has been offering for a long time, but recently, the club has added to their list of perks. Members can receive preferred rates on roadside assistance, extended service plans and even term life insurance. At Flying J and Pilot stores, members have the opportunity to get a three to five cent discount on fuel, depending on what type they are pumping. Even that little discount can make a world of difference on a long road trip.
