Googleâs List Of Top 10 SEO No-Noâs (Part 1)
I’m going to hazard a guess that you have stumbled across this article looking for ways to get your website onto the first page of Google. Whilst this a great sentiment and certainly a great way to get your business name out there, you will need some search engine optimization (SEO) help to get you there and help keeping your ranking once you’ve achieved it. To make sure that your SEO truly is beneficial, make sure that you steer clear of these no-no’s.
- Title Tag Stuffing
Some people think that by stuffing the title tags in their website’s code they will suddenly find themselves with a good ranking. In actual fact, using this SEO technique will cause you to drop ranking faster than you can say ‘keyword’. - Image Alt Tags
Others think that by stuffing the alt (alternative text) tags on their website they can receive the rankings that they so desire. Not only will using this SEO technique cause you to drop ranking, it can even lead to a ban or penalty that affects your optimization for years to come. - Content Keyword Stuffing
This is an SEO technique that is as old as the hills themselves, but is one that also possesses a number of repercussions. Not only will it make your content appear like spam and make it nearly impossible for your visitors to read, it will also lead to a ranking drop. - Comment Tag StuffingThe comment tags are only supposed to be used for adding instructions or reminders to your code. Some people, however, believe that stuffing these tags with keywords is a great SEO technique; once Google catches on, however, it’s a penalty for you.
- Hidden Text
This is an SEO technique that was once very popular but is now seen as a way of tricking Google. Don’t put content in that is the same color as the background or is otherwise hidden if you want Google to recognize your SEO efforts as legitimate.
In part two of this article, we will look at the final 10 SEO no-no’s as outline by the popular search engine, Google. As you can see, the majority of the above list involves keyword stuffing or text in some form or another. This is because these are some of the primary ways that people choose to abuse SEO. If you want to guarantee that your ranking was gained through purely ethical means, you will avoid the above no-no’s at all costs.
