Google Universe Vs Facebook Galaxies
Written by Sid Tiwatne
This is the title which I could think right now after knowing two different fields of social networking. The reaso
I’m classifying them as two different fields is because in reality they are. I spent an entire evening to understand what Google+ or G+ is exactly. To my mind all I see is Facebook titles which are roaming right, left and centre of my mind.
Google launched G+ on end of June; the invitation was limited because they were testing the product. Facebook on the other hand was launched directly in to the hub of social networking, they changed the looks and features after the product were used (good to know that because this is how alterable products are). In short Mark Zuckerberg did practice some business tools before launching Facebook. G+ on the other hand wasn’t sure and took the trial method.
G+ is wide and enough to accommodate the entire world population, but it doesn’t make sense because all the options are complicated. I remember shifting from Orkut to Facebook, and I was like damn this thing is awesome. For a college going guy this is the best thing one can have. It was easily setup on my phone and I could access it easily, G+ is also present but doesn’t accommodate that well on the mobile screen. Somehow I think it is better to use on the laptop or the home computer. Frankly saying there are too many privacy issues present which make the product difficult to trust on. When a user logs on the internet first thing comes to his/her mind is of privacy, data security and safety is one measure which haunts the nimble mind. Facebook on the other hand is full-fledged ready with security tools that ensure every user has options to secure his data.
One of the starred attractions on G+ is of friend feature, all you need to do is add them up directly without invitation or acceptance and they are present. I don’t want my ex girl friend to be added here; yes I can block her but no need of traces to be present. This is one feature which ensures our data to be accessed by anyone. Some time back I saw some photos of my friends through G+, they are coded directly through Picasa as it is a Google product. Heck I didn’t knew a reunion took place, so what should I consider this as? Well if I can access photos without invitation so can others, my photos are some of the best shots taken through my DSLR. Privacy factor is mind boggling zero which is not good. Facebook on the other hand has special preferences when it comes to tagging and viewing pictures.
Video chatting is must because I have most of my friends working/ studying in the states. Feature named hangouts seems to be good. This is one feature which I really thank Google for creating it, I really wish Facebook had this option apart from those bing bing chat replies. Now we can all meet up and have a chit chatting session in the same manner like back in college days.
The +1 option is nothing but like button on Facebook, nothing different. Google has just replicated Facebook and come out with their type of universe. By clicking on some options I felt like a lost person, maintaining two different social networking sites seems impossible for me even if they are providing all facilities. I want to be in touch with my friends, may be not all but yes definitely with some of them. Facebook has also helped various brands to come up. I do buy scale models from my pocket money; on G+ it’s missing. I do get an update if there is a new Lamborghini in the market through my Facebook account.
In all I would conclude that G+ is not that great. Looks as if it is modified Facebook, just the options and features have been replaced by Google names. Couple of new tabs is present but not worth risking entire private information on social networking site. If Google manages to repair them then yes we have a new universe to stay in, if not then yes current galaxy like Facebook exists. I’m so not deleting my Facebook ID, but yes I would wait to see the final launch of G+.
