Challenged by your own or your kids' unhealthy eating habits? Green smoothies could be your new best friend.

The positive impacts of the green smoothie craze sweeping my family and friends are as welcome as they are surprising. Unhealthy eating habits are being displaced by a new addiction; green smoothie health!

Case study 1: My friend Elise, who is getting in shape for a wedding, needed to drop her morning coffee and muffins routine. Green smoothies won't just help her shed unwanted weight; they'll add a clear glow to her skin and a sparkle to her eyes. She's motivated by her short term goal (looking great at this wedding) to replace her coffee and muffins with fresh green smoothies for a month or so. The advantage for Elise is that this goal gives her a finite timeframe for sticking with green smoothies. Habits take 4-6 weeks to form, so by the time she's actually reached the wedding deadline, she'll have a new, healthier green smoothie habit.

Case study 2: My 18 month old son can't be tempted to eat up his little trees (broccoli) like a baby giraffe. Snowpeas are chewed up and spat out. Although he refuses to eat cooked green vegetables at dinner time, he is willing to DRINK raw greens for BREAKFAST in a green smoothie. The sweetness of the 60% ripe fruit tempts him to drink up the 40% greens that go with it. The novelty of a straw also helps...

Case study 3: My friend Chris is the last person you'd expect to experiment with anything rumoured to be healthy. He's more likely to resist healthy eating habits BECAUSE they're healthy, priding himself in his preference for beer and 100% fatty barbequed pork ribs. However, a miracle has occurred now that he's given green smoothies a go. He'll only drink one combination so far, baby spinach, rockmelon and bananas, but he drinks it every day. When I asked him what convinced him to try green smoothies he said, "You made me look at your website." Nice. The rest of his diet hasn't changed much, although he tells me he hasn't eaten Maccas since his green smoothie habit started three weeks ago. At least his body is getting a significant nutrition boost and his family is feeling very happy that his diet is improving.

So, before you despair of yourself and give up on your health goals, give green smoothies a test run for a month. You might surprise yourself.
