We have all been tempted by the lure of greener pastures. “Greener pastures,” is when something looks better, easier, or much grander than your current situation. This could apply to your personal as well as your professional life.
Sometimes the lure of greener pastures is overwhelming. It could be a better business offer, a different mate, or a chance at easy money or a better life.
If you want to change anything about yourself, you have to take risks and you have to work hard and do your homework about what you want to accomplish.
When considering a change, ask yourself some important questions:
1. How is the change going to affect me? And your family if you have one.
2. Is it love or infatuation? Is it worth risking a new life and losing what you already have?
3. Is the reward worth the risk?
4. What are your options? Is there another option that you haven’t considered?
5. If you do change is it going to open new doors in the future if this venture fails? For example, if you change careers, is the new career going to be in demand five years from now?
6. Ask yourself why you are considering the change. Is it a temporary emotional decision? What is the need for change based on?
7. Lastly, if something is too good to be true, it probably isn’t. Think twice before you invest your money, change your lifestyle, or welcome new easy opportunities.
If you are ready for a change, if what you are doing currently is not working for you, then the grass does look greener on the other side. Make whatever changes you need to make to become a better you. A well thought out plan leaves little chance for any unexpected surprises.
