According to the legend, the deity was an Avatar of Goddess Parvati, who waited for God Shiva till the marriage evening. God Shiva failed to show up on the evening and the food remained uncooked, which later on got turned into stones. Multicoloured sands on the beach are the remnants of that wedding feast. Temple of Goddess Bhagavathi
This is another famous temple of the town. The belief that devotees visiting the temple get their wishes granted with the blessings of Goddess, brings a large number of the visitors to the temple. Dedicated to Goddess Bhagavathi, the temple is a sacred place and is a showcase of South Indian Culture. According to the legend, the deity, who was a representative of 'Shakti' and killed Banasur, a powerful demon.
Vivekananda Rock Memorial
Located at a distance of around 500 meters from the sea coast, the temple is a blend of two different Indian architecture styles. Built on a huge rock, this temple gives the feel of an island. Dedicated to Swami Vivekananda, the temple is a symbol of spirituality. A life size statue of Swami Vivekananda, the great philosopher makes it easily visible and more special.
