There’s no arguing that a fresh, clean penis is just more appealing, but there is more to penis hygiene than just attracting a partner for an intimate encounter. Self-care and grooming are also important to good health, and while skipping a shower now and then probably won’t cause any long-term problems, constantly neglecting the equipment can spell big trouble. Fortunately, adequate penis care does not require a huge investment of time or money, once a man knows what is needed to keep the package in top form. Why penis hygiene is important Given its position in terms of male anatomy, the penis is generally enclosed in a warm, humid environment that provides the ideal haven for invaders such as bacterial and fungal spores. Under the right conditions, these organisms can flourish, causing infections, itching, burning, unpleasant rashes, and a host of other problems that most men could do without. On top of these issues, of course, are the various bodily fluids that are produced in the area, and a combination of sweat, stale urine, semen and body oils can accumulate and wreak havoc if left to ripen for too long. Aside from minor skin infections, men who are a bit lax in the cleansing department may be at greater risk for STDs and even penile cancer. If these problems are not motivating enough for a man to take a few extra minutes polishing the family jewels, he should keep in mind that problems like foul odors, an unhealthy appearance or simply raw, roughened skin are likely to make a potential partner think twice about letting that particular organ anywhere near them. Guidelines for penis care
  • Wash - This step should be followed daily; if a bath or a shower is not available, then a visit to the bathroom sink will also do the trick. The penis should be washed with warm water and a mild cleanser - no harsh soaps, please - and men who are uncut should take care to (gently) pull back the foreskin and clean away any accumulated material. The fingertips are generally all that is needed for this job; for men who prefer a little extra help, a soft cloth will do.
  • Dry - Moisture that becomes trapped underneath the foreskin can encourage the overgrowth of yeast or bacteria, so it is important to let the area dry thoroughly before replacing the foreskin. Patting gently with a soft towel and then waiting a few moments to air-dry can help ward off yeast infections and reduce unpleasant odors.
  • Inspect - After washing, men should take the opportunity to get up close and personal with the package, viewing it from all angles and making note of any unusual growths, discolorations, bruises or bumps. A mirror can be helpful at this stage to catch the view from below.
  • Protect - For men who are sexually active, barrier protection is an absolute must for every encounter, unless they are in an exclusive, monogamous relationship where both partners have received a clean bill of health. Keeping it covered can prevent contact with body fluids and lubes that can cause irritation, as well as protecting against communicable disease.
  • An extra nutrient boost for optimum penile health Keeping the penis clean and protecting it from potential problems are essential measures for avoiding future problems, but men who are serious about good health can take an extra step in ensuring good hygiene, active disease-fighting ability, and overall good health. Applying a penis health formula (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil) that is fortified with penile-specific vitamins, amino acids, antioxidants, and natural emollients can provide the nutrients the penis needs to function at its prime. Massaging a penis cream into the penile skin after a daily shower can give men an additional edge when it comes to good health.
