While hair loss affects women more than men, for both sexes this can lead a difficult mental problem. It is important for women to know the cause, which treatments are available, how to prevent and what are the solutions for hair loss.
Hair loss in women can be a complete loss of hair. This loss can be temporary or permanent. Women often lose their hair for some medical reason, and when this reason or condition is detected and can be controlled, then hair loss is stopped. Medical name for hair loss is Alopecia. The conventional view is that only men suffer Alopecia, however, more women have the same problem.

Some women lose their hair due to hormonal imbalances (especially during pregnancy and after birth), due to stress or an undiagnosed illness. Some women are born with a genetic predisposition for hair loss associated with age.

Other causes are associated with improper thyroid functioning, vitamin deficiency and diabetes. If there is a serious hormonal imbalance it can lead to great loss of hair, which is common in women who have little tolerance for the contraception pills.

There are several options for treating hair loss in women. However, the first thing you should do is examination by a dermatologist or a doctor who is specialist for dermatology of the head. The doctor will then recommend a remedy to which you can start treating hair loss.

One of the remedies that can help is Minoxidil for which it was discovered that, when placed on the scalp, it stimulates hair growth.
Many women think they can treat their hair loss in the same way as men. But this is not true. Did you know that women who are planning to get pregnant, and use the same treatment for hair loss as men can have complications with the development of the fetus?

If a woman has a lack of estrogen or progesterone and as result a loss of hair, then she will most likely be prescribed hormone replacement therapy. With therapy she will get her hormones that are missing which will help her to naturally restore hair. As testosterone deficiency can cause hair loss in men, and loss of female hormones can cause hair loss in women.

One of the drugs that are prescribed to both men and women and which is effective is Propecia (which is used to prevent prostate problems). This drug should not be used by pregnant women because of the risk for the male fetus.

Although hair loss can represent a problem that is hard to live, it is good to know that there is a solution. One of the solutions, while the hair does not grow, and wearing different wigs that will allow for more frequent change of image or wearing different scarves.
Surgery has a range of options to repair and camouflage thinned areas. Can be applied in individual follicles of eyelashes and eyebrows which can be taken from other areas, such as the skin of limbs, armpits, genitals.
