This season he displayed various losses, and almost never winning a race. Eventually a layoff was permitted and Hanover waiting until his five year old season to race again. In the fourth year of running, Hanover won 9 out of 17 races he started in and then retired. Hanover’s siring career was equally impressive with one with offspring like Hamburg and damsire of Sir Barton. American Horse of the Year for 1887 and leading sire for four years, Hanover was inducted to the Racing Hall of Fame in 1955 also becoming the greatest winner of his time.
