One emotion that you may be facing is fear. You have lived your life keeping the amount of food you consume a secret from others. You have lived a life filled with shame and sadness over your weight and eating habits. To think about being happy and having a different relationship with food is scary because you may not even remember the last time you felt that way. You may also feel an uneasiness over the process of eating disorder help. When you seek help you may need to see a therapist, start a non-diet approach to weight loss, and begin behavioral interventions. On top of that, you will have to develop positive self-statements.
