Is your business idea still just an idea?

Is starting your own business something that you would love to do but haven't as yet? Is your idea still 'on the back burner', something that you will allow yourself to pursue 'one day'.

Research and planning are paramount to your business success but sometimes it can become an excuse for lack of action.

If you're serious about starting your own business you will reach a point where you have to stop planning and start doing.

Reasons Or Excuses?

Some of the more common reasons for delaying our business start-ups are due to family, career or relationship commitments. We all have things vying for our attention and there will never be a perfect time to start. So if necessary start small. This is better than not starting at all. Develop your business around your other commitments. Commit just a few hours a week if that is all you have, but make a start. Do something each week that will take you closer to your business goals.

Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Aside from 'other commitments' one of the biggest reasons for not taking action is fear. Fear is what stops us from pursuing what is important to us. We often want something so much yet are afraid to go after it due to fear of failure.

One of the biggest reasons that people don't achieve their ultimate dream is that they are afraid to step outside of their comfort zone. This means stretching ourselves and attempting things that may be unfamiliar to us. Things that we are not use to doing. Things that at first may be uncomfortable.

The great thing about stepping out of our comfort zone is that once we have mastered the new skill, we then function at a higher level then we did before. Any successful business owner will tell you that the rewards and benefits of building a successful business far outweigh any temporary discomfort that you may experience during the establishment phase.

Sometimes we have to step outside of our comfort zone. We need to try things that may be new and unfamiliar to us. By doing so we are challenging ourselves. Life is a series of challenges and those who embrace these challenges will progress more quickly towards their goals.

Focus and Belief
Stay focused and have a plan. Believe in yourself and set yourself some clear goals. Write them down. Having goals in place will help you to utilize your time most effectively and make the most of your available resources. Goals also enable you to concentrate on the most important tasks.

If you're having trouble getting started, find a quiet spot and turn off the phone and the computer! The world can do without you for an hour or so (I promise). Now start thinking about your business goals. If you're having trouble getting started then start at the finish and work backwards. Write down your ultimate goal. Give yourself a reasonable time frame to achieve it and then break the task up into manageable chunks. Do something everyday that moves you closer to your ultimate goal.

Most importantly, you need passion. Passion provides the drive and the will to make it happen. Choose your business wisely. If you're not passionate about your business idea you might as well stay working for someone else and save yourself the responsibilities and pressures of business ownership.

Don't Put It Off Any Longer
Life is a series of challenges and those who embrace these challenges will progress more quickly towards their goals in business and in their personal lives as well. Start today and you can turn that long held dream into a reality!
