Healthier Looking Skin: Use Natural Skin Care Products
Written by Kate Schilling
The sun expels ultraviolet radiation. Luckily enough, UV radiation isn't powerful enough to go beyond the skin. But this also means that your skin has to deal with the consequences of this exposure. Ultraviolet radiation is categorized in three groups: UVB, UVC, and UVA. UVC is almost entirely absorbed by the ozone layer. UVB radiation fluctuates throughout the year and affects the outer layer of the skin. UVB radiation is also to blame for sun damaged skin, like sunburns. UVA radiation, on the other hand, does not vary during the year and penetrates deeper into the skin. Both UVA and UVB radiation can cause skin damage including lowered immunity against infection, aging skin disorders, cancer, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. Photo Aging Photo aging is one of the biggest complications of sun exposure. Collagen will break down faster than normal when it is exposed to UV radiation. Abnormal accumulation of elastin is also a side-effect of too much solar exposure. The abnormal buildup produces metalloproteinases that can actually cause the collagen to "malfunction" and break down. This will lead to disorganized collagen fibers which could result in the development of wrinkles. UV radiation also causes the skin to change thickness. The damaged skin becomes leathery and thick, which leads to the appearance of coarse wrinkles especially along the back of the neck. The opposite is also an option, UV radiation can lead to thinner skin which also can lead to wrinkles, fine lines and easy bruising. A change in your pigmentation can also be caused by UV radiation. Freckles are the most noticeable pigment changes. When melanocytes are damaged they become bigger and freckles appear. Larger shaped freckles or age spots can easily appear on the back of the hands, chests and shoulders. The destruction of melanocytes can lead to white spots on your skin. Age Spots Treatment and Wrinkle Treatment Skin rejuvenation relies on a number of factors. Overexposure to radiation can be prevented by using a sun block of at least SPF 30. Don't forget to use protective garments like long sleeved shirts and a wide brim hat if you are going to be outside for long periods of time. Sun bathing is something that you should always avoid. You will get that glow of the tan, but you will also get a lifetime of leathery and damaged skin. Microdermabrasion can help minimize the appearance of wrinkles. As for age spots, you can use bleaching creams to reduce their appearance.
