One of the dreadful realities of life is getting gray hair as you start ageing. But when you start noticing gray hair at an age like your early 20’s, it is a matter of great concern. But the good news is, you’re not alone in this. It has become too common to lose hair colour at any age. We have highlighted below some of the major causes why your hair goes gray at such an early age. 1.It happens when your body stops producing pigment. First, it is important to understand how your hair gets its colour. There is a pigment named melanin that is responsible for providing colour to your hair and it keeps on releasing as your locks grow. However, the rate of pigment production decreases as we age and hair starts losing its colour. Initially your strands start getting gray and then it gets white when the pigment production stops completely. 2.Genetics play a vital role when it comes to premature graying. Graying is usually linked with ageing but according to research and common observation, this process is highly variable. People in their 90’s might not get it but others in their early 20’s might lose their hair colour. This is actually associated with the way people age. There are two main ways of ageing i.e. intrinsically and extrinsically. Intrinsic ageing is linked with genetics, if your parents get gray hair in an earlier age, you might also get the same. And if there is no family history but you’re having gray hair, it is linked with extrinsic way of ageing. Extrinsic ageing is basically experienced due to factors including lifestyle changes, excessive exposure to sunlight, smoking or nutritional deficiencies etc. 3.Stress can also contribute in premature graying. Stress or trauma is not the actual factor causing hair to gray but it works as an accelerator. It can speed up the process. When the levels of stress hormone increases, it affects the follicle by making it age at a much faster rate. This in turn, causes the hair to lose its colour. 4.Graying can be caused by Alopecia Areata This rarely happens but graying can also be caused by autoimmune diseases like Alopecia Areata. In such cases, our own immune system attacks the hair follicles and the sufferer experiences decreased hair growth with excessive hair loss. When the lost hair grows back, it often grows back white. 5.Vitamin B-12 deficiencies are also responsible. Nutritional deficiencies can make your hair lose its colour. It is very important to have a balanced diet and a regular intake of multivitamins such as Hairfinity Hair Vitamins. 6.How to tackle the problem? Plucking your gray hair out is the worst thing you can do to tackle this problem. It can lead to a number of other problems. Secondly, it doesn’t help much because you’re going to get a lot more of them and you can’t pluck all of them off. One of the best ways to get rid of gray hair is to camouflage them. That being said, there are many preventive measures you can take to stop your hair from graying. Our skin and hair have a special ability to regenerate and recover. Bringing changes in lifestyle, maintaining a healthy diet and controlling stress levels can contribute a lot to solving the problem.
