Holidaying in Hong Kong
Written by Jhonson Peterson
Hong Kong used to be a colony of the UK, but now it is a part of China. The island is an extremely popular tourist destination. Those coming on cheap flights to Hong Kong are often amazed at the hospitality and warmth they are greeted with.
The island is considered a global city. Hence, many international airlines, such US Airways, Air Canada and Air China, are catering to the growing demands of international visitors. There are even low cost airlines that offer cheap flights to the city. So getting reasonably priced airline tickets to visit this beautiful and charming island is never a problem.
There many attractions and sights to see in the city. One of the most popular sights is the Victoria’s Peak. It is even popular with the local residents. It is the highest spot on the island offering an awe-inspiring view of the entire island, especially during the night when all lights are lit. There are trams running to the Peak or you can even take a bus. There is a shop here called the Peak Galleria, where you can buy wonderful souvenirs and fantastic bargains to take home. In addition, you can enjoy a meal at the many restaurants in the vicinity. You can even visit the popular branch of Madame Tussaud wax museum here which displays wax images of famous local as well as international celebrities and personalities.
The island boasts of a vibrant nightlife. There are numerous pubs and bars to visit. Of course, the Temple Street Night Market located in Yau Mai Tei is extremely popular. Here you can pick mobile phone accessories, bags, souvenirs, shoes, replica watches and many other counterfeit products of high quality. Some of the stores in the market even sell pirated DVDs and CDs. The food stalls in the market and around it serve some delicious local seafood, snacks and other fare. It is worth trying out the dishes here.
Visitors coming on the numerous flights to Hong Kong have to experience a ride on the Star Ferry, which connects the island city and Kowloon. This ferry has been operating since 1888. While an underground road access has been laid, many residents still prefer taking the ferry. A ferry ride is a must-have experience when holidaying on this island. The ride will allow you to get fantastic views of both sides of the banks; and the cost of traveling on the ferry is not expensive at all.
When you come on cheap tickets to Hong Kong, you will get an opportunity to see the extremely entertaining street performers performing different Cantonese operas. These performances will allow you to find out more about the history and culture of the island.
One of the islands called Cheung Chau Island hosts a popular festival every year. This festival is known as Cheung Chau Bun Festival where the participants, all young men, have to scale a 60-foot bun tower and grab the bun at the very top. The one who succeeds is the winner. According to local beliefs, the winner will be blessed with good fortune throughout the year.
