Acidity or heartburn is a common occurrence that most people face. One in two people are preyed by bouts of acidity. Hyper-acidic condition of the stomach is the root cause of acidity. The cells in the inner lining of stomach normally and regularly secrete acid (hydrochloric) to liquefy the food we consume, thus making it easily digestible. This is a normal procedure. But when the acid production exceeds the amount required by the stomach, acidity problem arises. Prolonged acidity leads to corrosion of the stomach wall and formation of ulcers. Pain and burning sensation above the stomach or beneath the breastbone is a dominant sign of acidity.

The other signs could be belching, nausea, farting, vomiting, coughing, respiratory problems, voice change, pain in ears, chest inflammation, loss of appetite or feeling hungry frequently etc. Many people also suffer from acid regurgitation or jumping of acid up the food pipe.
