Diarrhea, commonly known as Loose Motions, is the condition when one passes out unformed stools from one's body. It causes cramps accompanied with a vomiting sensation, and leads to weakness and loss of vitamins in the body. It is a very painful and uncomfortable condition, which can cause dehydration, and in extreme cases can even lead to death. The intestine in the body normally absorbs water secreted by the stomach, but during diarrhea, the excess water is not absorbed resulting in loose motions. Since there is a continuous loss of liquids from the body, it is essential to have regular intake of fluids to prevent matters from getting worse.

One should take care to avoid foods that one is allergic to, and result in diarrhea. Also, self-medication should be avoided, and a doctor should be consulted for proper medicines.

Diarrhea in infants, old people and pregnant ladies should be treated with utmost care. Children as well as adults must take care to wash their hands before eating, and after defecating. Infants must not be allowed to put toys in their mouth, as they could be unhygienic and can lead to diarrhea. In case of loss of liquids through unformed stools or vomiting, the person should immediately be taken for medical care, as delaying it could be fatal.
