The reproductive system of females consists of two ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, vagina and external genitlia. The walls of the uterus consists of layers of tissues which are three in number. The outer thin covering is known as Peritmetrium (endometriosis). The Myometrium is a middle thick layer of smooth muscle fibers which shows strong contractions during delivery of baby. The Endometrium is inner glandular lining that lines the uterine cavity. The Endometrium undergoes cyclical changes during menstrual cycle.  When Endometrium tissue is found outside the uterus- usually in the abdomen, on the fallopian tubes, ovaries, vagina, cervix, intestines, bladder, then this tissue develops into growths or lesions which responds to the menstrual cycle in the same way that the tissue of the uterine lining does each month tissue builds up but the blood has no way of leaving the body and layers by layers are formed. This causes the formation of scars due to internal bleeding and inflammation. A laproscopy usually shows the size, location and extent of growth in the body. It generally affects the women between the ages of 24-45 years.

According to modern medicine, it is a painful and chronic disease that can affect females throughout their lives. The cause of Endometriosis is unknown according to modern medicine. The treatment in modern medicine includes the use of analgesics, hormonal therapy which do not provide permanent relief and also results in various side effects like- development of hair on face, hoarseness of voice, pseudomenopause, joint pains, hot flashes, vaginal dryness etc. There is no specific treatment available in Allopathy other than surgery for Endometriosis but in Ayurveda, this disease is very simple to treat even with the help of simple home remedies as Ayurveda deals with the root cause of a disease by understanding the Prakrati of a patient as each individual is unique.

Modern Medicine relies on giving chemical treatments and Hormonal therapies which leads to the development of various complications that may stop the ovary from producing hormones which ultimately leads to the stoppage of menstruation. This results in stress in females but in Ayurvedic system of medicine, the root cause of the disease is understood and treatment is given which is completely safe and eradicates the root cause of the disease. If we look in our kitchen, Endometriosis can be cured by simple home remedies.

According to Ayurveda, it involves the imbalance of all three doshas namely Vata, Pitta and Kapha although the proportion may vary to a certain extent due to the Prakrati of an individual.

The imbalance of Vata dosha causes pain, so painful menstruation (dysmenorrhoea) is the most common symptom of endometriosis. Inflammation, heavy bleeding can be attributed to associated Pitta involvement. Swelling and Heaviness is associated with Kapha involvement. As the condition progresses, more inflammation (Pitta) will cause more pain and scar tissue and adhesions (Kapha) will develop. According to Ayurveda, this disease is a result of toxin accumulation (Ama), poor digestion, poor nutrition etc. Stress is one of the leading cause of Endometriosis. Use of contraceptive pills is also one of the reasons. One must avoid chemical treatments to improve hormonal levels in the body as it leads to various side effects thus hampering the system's own mechanism to secrete hormones naturally.
