Home Remedies for Fever Blisters - Herpes Virus Treatment
Written by Jhonn Napier
Fever Blisters, also known as Cold Sores usually happen when someone has recently caught fever or cold, and has suffered from it for a long time, or when Herpes Virus has infected the person. The infection is actually contagious, and can be transferred from an infected person to a healthy person quite easily. The sores start to appear on the outer edge of the mouth, and seem to be filled with fluid in the beginning, which later turn into scabs. Sometimes, even prolonged stress and anxiety, as well as menstruation in women, can also be the causes of such sores.
To avoid the condition from worsening, there are certain home remedies for fever blisters. One of them is to apply the paste of cornstarch on the affected area, to dry the blisters and reduce the irritation. If the itching and burning sensation continues to bother, then one can try putting a wet tea bag on the affected area. The tea should be first immersed in boiling water, followed by allowing it to cool before placing it on the sores. The tea bags will also help in fast treatment of the blisters.
The reason why most people opt for home remedies for fever blisters over medication is because these remedies are safe and effective. Unlike medicines that can have a wrong reaction on someone’s skin, these home remedies work for all skin types.
It is important to remember that under no situation should a person scratch these blisters or touch them constantly. This is because constant pricking or playing with the blisters will only spread the virus more and worsen the condition. To get rid of the infection, one of the safest home remedies for fever blisters is to drink lots of Aloe Vera juice. At the same time, one should also keep drinking a lot of water to help flush out the infection from the body.
Rubbing ice cubes on the blisters will help to get instant relief from itching and burning. Twice a day, one can also apply common salt on the blisters with a moist finger. The salt may hurt a little initially, but it is very effective in treating the blisters.
Lemon balm is another one out of effective home remedies for fever blisters. It should be applied on a regular basis for a speedy treatment. Also, mint extracts, when applied on the blisters; help a lot in reducing the virus.
Some people also like to apply Witch Hazel or the spirit of camphor on the sores. But finding these may not be so easy. As an alte
ative, one can apply Tea Tree Oil on the sores. Tea Tree Oil actually helps in dealing with different kinds of viral and bacterial infections, and hence, is recommended for a lot of skin related problems too.
Ensure, that every time you apply something on the fever blisters, you wash your hands instantly after that to avoid spreading the virus to other parts of your body. The infected person should also have separate towels, soaps etc. for hygiene purposes.
