Hives, also known as urticaria is a medical condition which leaves behind patches and rings all over your body. It basically appears in group. These are usually itchy and red in color. Coming in contact with allergens cause release of chemical named histamine, which is the main cause for red blotches. There are several home remedies for hives which are easy and safe to be tried at home.

One of the most effective home remedies for hives is to apply cool compression on the affected area. This will give relief from the pain and itching.

Mix grapefruit seed extract with water and spray it on the affected area. This is one of the most effective home remedies for hives.

Mix olive oil (one teaspoon) with few drops of grapefruit seed extract. Apply this mixture on the affected area and you will see that it will help in healing and reduce itching.

Stay away from heat if you are suffering from hives. If you need to go out then cover your hives. Those suffering from hives can try swimming in a pool which contains chlorinated water. This will banish your itch and heal the hives within couple of hours.

Take two cups of oatmeal and three teaspoon of cornstarch. Now make them into a paste together by adding some water. Apply this paste on affected area for half an hour. You will notice that this paste dries up the hives within two hours. It is one of the most efficient home remedies for hives.

Try to avoid allergen triggering food like peanuts, eggs, chocolates, cheese, strawberries, nuts, soy products, tomatoes, shellfish and many more.

Consume diet rich in vitamin E, vitamin C and zinc. It is considered to be one of the effective home remedies for hives.

You can even try milk of magnesia which is an alkaline solution. All you need is to dab some milk of magnesia on the affected area. It will give you relief from the irritating itchy sensation.

Aloe vera gel is also very effective in treating hives. Just apply it on the affected area for at least twice a day. It will prove to be very beneficial. Or you can even try applying vitamin E oil on the affected area, which can prove to be equally effective.

Fill your bathtub half with lukewarm water and then add half cup each of baking soda and cornstarch. Now soak your body in this water. This can definitely help you in treating hives.

Drinking herbal tea is also very beneficial in treating hives. You can try drinking teas such as chamomile, passionflower, peppermint, catnip or valerian.

Consuming nettle tea is also very effective in healing hives. You can add lemon or honey for flavor. Consuming cayenne pepper is also equally beneficial.

Acupressure is also very helpful in treating hives. Evening primrose oil can also be beneficial in treating hives. All you need to do is to apply this oil on the affected area for several times a day. Taking an ice cold bath or shower and then sitting in front of the fan for almost five minutes can bring you relief.
