Sinus infection is caused by bacteria or viruses which lead to inflammation of the sinuses or air cavities within the passages of nose. It is medically termed as sinusitis. Infection of sinuses or paranasal sinuses (i.e. frontal, maxillary, ethmoid and sphenoid) swells the sinus tissue and causes the mucous membrane lining the inner part of each sinus to secrete excessive mucus. This intermittently blocks the sinus ostium or opening of the sinuses to the nasal airway and gives rise to symptoms like headache, facial tende
ess, fever, stuffy nose, cough, sore throat, facial pain and thick, pus-like nasal discharge. Depending upon its duration, sinusitis may be categorized in to acute sinusitis, sub-acute sinusitis and chronic sinus infection. If sinusitis gets complicated, it may lead to meningitis, osteomyelitis, brain abscess or orbital cellulites.

Home Remedies

1. Mix one-fourth teaspoon salt in 1 cup water, draw the solution in to an ear bulb syringe and push the solution in to our nostrils in order to irrigate the nasal passage way. This will cleanse the passage way of mucus and ease pain, swelling and discomfort.

2. Boil one-fourth cup grated ginger in water in water for about 15 minutes. Strain the liquid and soak a wash cloth in it. Use this soaked wash cloth to compress on your nose. This will allow nasal drainage and will minimize infection.

3. Mix 1 teaspoon grated horse radish with 1 teaspoon lemon juice and half teaspoon olive oil and eat the mixture. This will cleanse the mucus build up and reduce the swelling and pain associated with sinus infection.

4. Take 50 milligrams of grape seed extracts thrice daily. This home remedies for sinus infection reduces inflammation of sinus cavities and heals sinusitis.

5. Apply pressure and massage the area around the nose and the area below the eyes. This sort of acupressure allows drainage and relieves pain.

6. Mix equal amounts of cayenne pepper, clove and ginger and boil the mixture in water for sometime. Strain and use the water for gargling. This relieves sinus infection.

7. Eat mangoes in plenty. The fruit, rich in Vitamin A, helps to fight sinus infection.

8. Drink glassful carrot juice two times daily. You will quickly get cured of sinus infection.

9. Steam inhalation proves quite effective in treating inflamed sinus. Put few drops of pine oil or eucalyptus oil in to a bowl of hot, fuming water, cover your head with a heavy towel and inhale the vapor. This will clear out the sinuses and give you much relief.

10. Add 1 tablespoon vinegar and 1 teaspoon honey to a glass of water and drink the solution thrice daily. This is an effective home remedy for sinus infection.

11. Mix half cup apple cider vinegar in 1 glass water and drink the mixture thrice daily. This is also a curative drink.

12. Combine ginger and lotus root with water to make a paste. Apply the paste on forehead to get relief from pain due to sinusitis.

13. Pineapple, rich in bromelain, helps to fight sinus infection. Drink glassful pineapple juice daily.

14. Take 1 teaspoo
Ginseng powder daily to get cured of sinusitis.

15. Drink peppermint tea or tea made from elderberry flowers. This cures sinus infection.

16. Consume Oregon grapefruit in plenty. This ward off the infection.

17. Drink lemonade. This helps to get rid of sinusitis.

18. Drink ample water, for it helps in liquefying mucus and draining it out.
