Many definitions refer to alcoholism as a form of addiction that negatively affects all aspects of the victim's life. Alcohol addiction makes the victim ignore all that is important in life and the compulsion to drink becomes the topmost priority in their life. First person accounts of numerous alcohol addicts report that the addicted parties believe that they aren't hurting anyone but themselves. This is not true as alcohol abuse has a rather devastating impact on all members of the family. Most alcohol abusers also suffer from the same consequences but their dependence on alcohol has not taken center stage.rnBelow we take a look at how alcohol abuse and addiction trickles through the family.

Parent as an alcohol abuser/addict

rnWe all know that in a small family setting, parents are a vital structure for a normal life. When a parent is or regularly abuses alcohol, it has a negative effect on the family’s physical, monetary and emotional wellbeing. The parent will drag the family through trials as they push their efforts to help. This will be extremely hard for the family as they look to parents for all sorts of support.

Effects on partner

rnAs a parent addict or abuser, you will also put strains on the life of your partner. Living with an addict is taxing. Drinking alcohol is a source of fights among partner which also puts the family in emotional turmoil. Your actions will also open room for doubts in your partner's life. They will often question their ability to be there to support you. They will try and support you through the ordeal but sooner or later, questions about the family's safety and their own wellbeing will pull them away from you. Leaving your partner to pick up your responsibilities will also be a source of conflict as they will feel as if you have abandoned them. If you are suffering from alcohol abuse or addiction the first step towards putting things right; you can try SF medical detox treatment and a counselor can help you kick this bad habit.

Effects on children

rnAs an alcohol abuser or addict, you will neglect your main responsibility for your children. As the need for more alcohol will be your prime objective you will fail to notice when your children need help. Most children depend on their parents for support when things are not going well. They will try their best to get your attention but you won't consider them as Important. This will make them exhibit unexpected social tendencies. For instance, these kids can easily turn to addicts as a method of them getting away from their problems and your baggage. Your action will render your kids hurt, angry, lonely with a feeling of being inadequate.

Children as alcohol abuser/addict

When it’s your child who is abusing or addicted to alcohol, the family may fall apart. Most parent partnerships will fall out with each other when they disagree on how to handle the ordeal. This will lead to an unbalanced parent dynamic that will either smother the child or completely neglect them. Constantly check in and talk to your children so that they don’t fall on the abuse or addict wagon.
