PM Narendra Modi said “ Ayushman Bharat will be a ‘game changer’ in healthcare sector”. In the speech of Independence Day 2018, PM Modi announced the launching of the Ayushman Bharat-National Health Protection Scheme (AB-NHPS). He said that the national health insurance scheme will take out on a pilot basis in some states.

On September 23, 2018 the Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Ayushman Bharat. It is the world’s largest govt.

Funded healthcare initiative started in Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi. The scheme will become operational on 25th September on the occasion of Pt. Deendayal Upadhaya’s birthday. The scheme will be cashless and paperless at public hospitals while it will empanelled in private hospitals. The scheme has following main highlights:

a.The scheme aims to provide healthcare facilities to over 10 crore citizen of country belonging from urban and rural area.

b.PMJAY-Ayushman Bharat is the biggest government scheme launched by govt. in healthcare sector in the world.

c.The Ayushman Bharat scheme will provide insurance cover of 5 lakh rupees and it will be protecting about 50 crore citizens of the country.

The benefit of scheme is easily carried across the country and the benefit holder will be allowed to take cashless benefit in any of the public hospitals and empanelled private hospitals. About 1300 hospitals joined in the scheme and it will cover about 1300 diseases. For getting the benefit of scheme in hospital you have to show your E-card, and the process of treatment will start in hospital. In order to find whether your name is enrolled or not in the scheme you can call on number 1455 for finding out the answer.

The initiative will provide insurance cover of 5 lakh rupees which will be covering 10 crore families which is equivalent to 50 crore citizens. In the coming days the scheme will be beneficial to the lower middle class, middle-class and upper middle class by the way of jobs in medical sector because of the opening of new hospitals in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.

The initiative has been targeted at poor, deprived rural families and identified occupational categories of urban worker’s families. So according to the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) data, there are 8.03 crore families in rural and 2.33 crore in urban areas will be holding benefit of the Ayushman scheme. For making sure that nobody is left in enrollment (especially women, children and elder age people) there will be no issue or any question on the family size and age under the AB-NHPS scheme. AB-NHPS will provide benefit cover of rupees 5 lakh per family per year for the secondary and tertiary care hospitalization. The initiative will continue Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY), which was launched by UPA government in year 2008.
