How Can You Start a Recession Proof Business?
Written by Pablo Terreros
The Dow's down.....again. Can you keep track?
How's your 401K? How's far is your paycheck going? Are you concerned about tomorrow?
Unless you've been living under a rock, you know the economy is slipping into a recession. Many people know they need to find ways in increase their household income. They also know that a business that they own and control is the ideal way to do it. However, many don't know how they can do this and have financial success during a recession.
Is there a way?
Absolutely! Businesses will never go away. Even in a recession, we will always need businesses to supply us with various needs. In fact, if you meet people's needs, you can make even more during a recession than in a booming economy.
So, the first thing you need is to find a way to help people. Never forget this first and most important principle in business; you will make more money if you find ways to help people than if you look for a quick buck.
How can you help people? Well, what are things people need even in (or especially in) a recession? Some early thoughts are energy, health care, and ways to protect one's home regardless of financial status. If you can start a business helping people with one or more of these issues, your customer base will actually grow if the economy continues to get worse.
Next, you need to decide how to market and reach your customers. While there are many ways to do that, consider trends that are currently in effect. As each day goes by, more and more people and companies are conducting business online. In fact, major retailers will often sell you products cheaper online than in the store. It's more cost effective for the company and it allows the consumers dollar to go farther. It's a win win situation which is why more and more business is online each year.
At the same time, the quality of internet service goes up faster than you can keep pace while the cost of the service becomes more and more affordable. If you will take advantage of this trend, you will make a fortune in a booming economy or a recession.
Finally, if you've never been a business owner before, you will need partners who have been where you want to go. Don't underestimate the value of having a mentor who is committed to your success. Never overlook the risk involved in starting a business totally on your own when you have no experience doing so.
When you choose your partners, make sure they have established systems in place and an effective way to teach you what they know. There should also be a financial commitment as well. In other words, if you make money, your partners make money. If you must have success for your partners to have success, you can have more assurances that you will receive the help and support you need to have business success.
Regardless of what you choose to do, you need to start your plan now. Yes, things will get better, but they will get much worse before they do. The worst decision you can make is to do nothing. However, if you will find solid partners and start your own recession proof business, you can thrive in the years to come.
