How Teens Should Dress for an Interview

Dressing up for an interview is tedious enough. It’s even worse when you are a teen and it’s probably your first job interview. The pressure of going for an interview is enormous enough without having to wonder about your appearance as well. From ripped denims to the sudden need to dress up like you are heading for a Sunday service. The risk is you can’t look too mature or too kiddish. The way you present yourself plays as big a role as the interview itself. The way you should ideally dress of course depends on the type of position for which you are interviewing, but the basics are that you need to look professional, polished and confident. Here are a few tips that you should follow irrespective of the position you choose:

Always pick out comfortable, clean and professional attire. A simple and professional knee length formal dress or a formal skirt with a button-down shirt would work wonderfully. Both long sleeves and short sleeves are fine. Avoid strappy, sleeveless or strapless tops. Make sure the necklines you choose are on the more conservative side. Also ensure that the hemline of your formal dress or formal skirt comes to mid-knee or longer. It is important that your choice of clothing fits you properly. Do not pick out clothes that are too tight or too loose. They may create bad body language that you do not wish to portray.

When you go for an interview most colors work fine but the general rule is to lean darker and neutral colors like browns, khakis, blues and grays. If you do wish to go with something brighter then stick to more pastel shades like soft pinks, purples or greens. Avoid fluorescents at all cost.

It is important that your formal attire of choice is clean, well pressed and devoid of any soiling or tears.

Get rid of any facial piercings or multiple rings. Just one pair of earrings will work just fine. Pick out low heel shoes and make sure they are clean. Keep your nails clean and go light on the make up.
