How to Choose Your First Office Space
Written by Shaun Davison
When looking for offices to rent, you should first think carefully about what your requirements are and what you hope to get out of the space. If you’ve previously worked from home, or have just never rented out an office space before, you may not even fully realise what your needs are. Here are some handy tips to get you started.
One of the biggest factors affecting price is likely to be location. When you come to choose a location think about whether customers will be visiting your premises, and if so will they prefer an office that is easily accessible by public transport, such as a city centre location, or is it more likely that they will prefer car parking spaces to be available? Will you and your employees need access to city centre facilities, or will you be better off nearer main transport routes in and out of your chosen city or town? If you can do so, an out-of-town office space will usually be cheaper, but don’t cut costs if it will lose you business!
Another major consideration when trying to find offices to rent is the size of the premises. Deciding on the right size when starting out in your first office can be tricky, because it is hard to anticipate how things will progress in the future. Choosing a serviced office is therefore a great way to go because you will usually be able to take on more space or reduce size easily and without penalties. A serviced office also gives you everything you need, such as furniture, all bills included and various other services, with one flat rate price to pay. This is fantastic for helping you to manage your budget and also to make an instant decision about whether you can afford these premises before you take them on.
