How to Ensure Mineral Makeup Helps You Look Good
Written by Andrew Decosta
Choosing the correct makeup can be a trying task to say the least. There is such a wide assortment of products available, it can be hard to narrow it down. Whatever your preferences are, you can’t go wrong with minerals. Mineral makeup is a natural, healthier approach to cosmetics. So, if you want to know how to choose the appropriate mineral makeup, just follow these 8 easy tips.
1. Make sure your makeup is pure. Mineral makeup that includes talc, silk, biron, bismuth, or mica is not recommended by doctors. These products can affect your respiratory system and aren’t the extra fine, breathable products you should look to purchase. You also want to be sure there are no synthetics in the makeup. Preservatives and fillers are not something you want to see if you really want all the benefits of mineral makeup. Otherwise you may as well get the traditional cosmetics.
2. Look for FDA approval. You want the ingredients in your product that is safe, proven, and hypoallergenic. Formulations by companies like Jane Iredale have been around long enough to establish reputable standing in the world of mineral cosmetics.
3. Check the SPF. A good foundation will have both UVA and UVB protection. The titanium dioxide and zinc oxide will provide a natural shield from the sun.
4. Make sure it’s waterproof. Generally speaking, minerals last longer and look better than oil based products. However, no one wants makeup that is going to run so make sure your cosmetics won’t disappear if you come across a sudden shower.
5. Choose a tone that matches your skin. Jane Ire dale mineral makeup comes in a variety of shades. Women of color, Caucasian, Asian, and olive tones alike can all choose a coordinating mineral foundation.
6. Get some sample products. Often, you can go into your local salon or even shop online to purchase and try small samples. These are ideal to use before you choose to purchase a full size product and get stuck with something that may not be exactly what you want.
7. Get a good brush. Just because you purchase a product with one company doesn’t mean you have to use their application brush. Choose a large powder brush that will apply the makeup evenly. Of course you will need other brushes for applying blush, eye shadow, and concealer.
8. Consult a professional. Go down to your local cosmetics store and talk to them about the products. These ladies will be up to date on which product consumers are satisfied with and which brushes to use for those products. They usually can also give you a free consultation. An application may not be free, but at least you can see how the makeup looks on if you have them do an application.
However you slice it, a switch to mineral makeup is a great choice. Petroleum based products are not healthy for your skin. But make a wise choice and get the minerals that are right for you.
