Immediately after a traumatic event, it is common for people to feel stunned and not being able to accept what has happened, as such events could arouse a lot of disturbing feelings in a person, giving rise to mixed emotions of stress, fear, anger and agitation. But things usually settle with time. Now that one and a half year has passed and you can still not stop thinking about it, let us first and foremost try to find out what is the reason for this.

And attaining Self-Realization will help you greatly in this, for when you realize that, “I am Pure Soul”, your belief that, ‘I am indeed the one who can’t stop thinking’ drops. Keeping yourself separate, it becomes easier to discover what is keeping you trapped in this situation.

Normally, it takes a lot of effort and time to clear each impurity and climb up step after step, before we attain the experience of our real Self. But just like we go to goldsmith, who through his mere expertise, in no time separates the pure gold from amongst all impurities; similarly in Akram Vignan, which is the stepless path to Self-Realization, we go to Gnani, who through His divine powers, separates the pure Soul, from amongst all impurities of the worldly self.

Applying the following solutions is easier after Self-Realization. However you may still try to apply them, since they are given by Gnani, the Enlightened One, and therefore shall certainly help you.

Close your eyes. Now, go over what happened during and after the event, to find out what exactly is bothering you today.

1.Reason 1: You may be reminded of how helpless, vulnerable and overwhelmed the trauma made you feel, which is making you scared that ‘what if the same thing happens to me again?’

If it is so, do not worry, because it takes so many circumstances to make any event happen. Only when all the required circumstances come together, does any event take place. Such things do not happen again and again, it is not so easy. And ask God within to give you strength to be able to face any eventuality in life.

2.Reason 2: You feel that if you would have done or behaved in so and so manner, you may have prevented this traumatic event from happening.

If it is so, do not over-think. Come to terms with whatever happened. Accept the reality of what happened rather than wondering about what might or could have happened. When a thought goes beyond a certain level it is called a worry. Why worry about that which has already happened, and for which there is no solution now? The traumatic event is over and it has gone forever. So, enjoy your present.

3.Reason 3: This event has made you negative and suspicious about yourself and about your destiny, which makes you feel all the time, ‘Nothing of mine shall ever be fine.’

If it is so, please do not fear. If you remain in constant fear that “things will not be fine, things will not be fine”, then things will not be fine indeed. Gradually come out of this negativity. Or else although everything is fine, your psychology will not allow you to see or feel that way. Start to feel more positive about things in life. Everytime negativity arises in your mind, keep turning it to positive. As the feeling of pessimism gradually fades, positive thoughts and feelings will take their place.

4.Reason 4: While going through the traumatic event, you’ve made some intense mental note.

If it is so, delete this note now. One’s vision becomes muddy due to such intense mental notes, making it all the more difficult to even uncover these notes. Listening to Gnani’s satsang not only helps us identify the intense mental notes, but it also prepares us to let them go. Let these mental notes go and your tension will automatically go.

5.Reason 5: In a state of shock, you chose to bottle up your feelings, is it?

If it is so, talk it out to someone, whom you trust and love. Bottled up feelings can make you feel worse and can damage your life altogether. See for yourself how it is already affecting you physically and mentally – you cannot sleep well, you cannot eat well, you are not able to concentrate on anything, you keep forgetting everything, it angers you and agitates you; it saddens you and embarrasses you, isn’t it?

To whosoever you can confide in, speak about what all happened and how you feel about it. Don't bother if you cry; cry your heart out for once and give vent to your locked emotions.

6.Reason 6: You are very angry with the person who you feel is responsible for this traumatic event.

If it is so, its time you take a U turn. You are upset because you are seeing the other person as the doer. But do you know, no one has the power to do anything whatsoever in this world? Everything that happens in our life, be it good or bad, is the result of our own unfolding karmas only. The person whom you are holding responsible for the event to take place, was nominated by Nature to deliver the fruits of your karma (past deeds) to you. So he is not at fault; no one in this world therefore is really at fault. This is the law of Nature.
So, forget whatever happened. Be noble and forgive the person with all your heart. Remember the person and say, “I forgive you. I have no claim, nor any complain against you.”

Such traumatic situations help us begin our inward journey!!
When circumstances affect our worldly self very badly, they push us towards finding peace in our real Self. The pure Soul is our real Self, and it is made up of infinite love and infinite power.
Therefore, to get over the traumatic event and begin to move on forgetting about it, go to Gnani, the Embodiment of Pure Love, attain from Him Self-Realization, and fill your life with pure love, for love helps heal any wound. Wishing you good luck, hope your life returns to normal very soon!

Ambalal M. Patel was a civil contractor by profession. In June 1958, spontaneous Self-Realization occurred within Ambalal M. Patel. From this point on, Ambalal became a Gnani Purush, and the Lord that manifest within him became known as Dada Bhagwan. A Gnani Purush is One who has realized the Self and is able help others do the same. Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan used to go from town to town and country-to-country to give satsang (spiritual discourse) and impart the knowledge of the Self, as well as knowledge of harmonious worldly interactions to everyone who came to meet him. This spiritual science, known as Akram Vignan, is the step-less path to Self-realization
