How to get rid of permanent pimples with the help of a comedone lifter
Written by Kalyna Kapur
Step 1
Take a hot shower. The steam opens your pores and loosens the skin around your blackheads. Wash your face for a minute with an acne-fighting cleanser with salicylic acid. Rinse well with lukewarm water. Salicylic acid is necessary to remove the layer of dead skin cells near the blackheads. It also helps to keep the pores clean and open.Step 2
Place a cotton ball over a bottle of toner and tilt it to saturation. Spread the cotton ball over your entire face or simply concentrate on the areas with stubborn blackheads. This is an important step for people with oily skin or severely clogged pores, says Yale-affiliated, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Alicia Zalka. Choose a toner with alpha hydroxy acids, anti-inflammatory properties such as aloe and restorative ingredients such as Totarol.Step 3
Smooth a kaolin-based mask or acne cleansing mask with benzoyl peroxide on your face twice a week to avoid congestion of blackheads. Make sure that you completely cover the areas where blackheads are a permanent feature. Leave the mask on for about 5 minutes. Rinse with warm water as soon as it becomes sticky and changes color. If left on for a longer period of time, it removes the necessary skin moisture and can lead to irritation.Step 4
Pour alcohol over your comedone lifter to disinfect it. Place the smaller end of the comedone lifter directly on the permanent blackhead. Press down firmly but gently. The blackhead should start to come loose. Press down a second time to lift the blackhead completely out of the pore. Stop trying if the blackhead doesn't move. Visit a board-certified dermatologist if you have tried the above steps in vain for six weeks. You may need a prescription retinoid to remove blackheads. Your dermatologist may also recommend microdermabrasion, chemical peeling treatments and comedone extractions depending on skin condition. Things you will need • Anti-acne cleaner with salicylic acid • Clean towel • Cotton-wool swab • Alcohol-free toner • Acne Fighting Face Mask • Extraction tool made of stainless steel • Tips and tricks • A sulphur spot treatment can also help to loosen permanent blackheads.Attention:
Avoid squeezing stubborn blackheads with your fingertips or attacking them with something sharp like a needle.Article author
