I am sure you are wondering about removing skin tags.

Educate yourself first about skin tags before setting your mind to get rid of them. How and why, exactly, are skin tags formed? Skin tags and moles are two very different types of features on the skin. Often, skin tags are mistaken for moles, and vice versa. But that's not right.

Skin tags do not appear right from birth. They evolve in the body of some people as they grow. Meanwhile, there are two types of moles. The first type is present from birth while the second type is not, but starts to appear and proliferate as the years pass. Most moles are non-malignant. It is during adulthood that skin tags mostly develop. Children do not get skin tags. People between the ages of 30 and 45 get most of these. There are chances for toddler and children to develop tags, but it is quite a rare condition. They can expect to have more and more skin tags appear in their body until they hit 60.

Virus entry is singled out as one of the many cause of skin tag formation. In certain cases, the skin tags can be present when you are born. The area behind ears is a common place for skin tags to appear in among kids. These skin tags have been in existence even before the kids were born. Skin tag formation in utero is a rare occurrence but they happen in very rare cases.

It is often the case that, when approached and consulted on the matter of removing skin tags, dermatologists would advise against actually doing it. He may also tell you to stop taking any medication seeing as you're all right with living with those skin tags, anyway. But if the skin tags were discovered not to be benign, then he would most definitely urge you to get rid of them.

If you are not comfortable with how the skin tags look, you can still have them removed. You can undergo the treatment of your choice if the skin tags are proving to be 'detrimental' to your looks. Cauterization would be on top of the list of suggested treatments by dermatologists. Or he could recommend excision. Other skin tag removal methods that professionals would suggest include cryosurgery and ligation. In ligation, the surgery can be done even without going into the operating room or being handled with advanced surgical tools. It can be done even at your house.

There are some things you'd need to be able to perform ligation from home. You just need a surgeon's knot. This is known as the dental floss. They are available anywhere. The dental floss will be used to tie the base of the skin tags. The skin tags will then dry out, until they fall off the skin. This will take roughly 3 to 4 days. It could hurt a bit, considering you would be applying some force. Nevertheless, it is a safe procedure that is tried out by so many people.
